The inscription translates from latin as follows:

Lord Bernard (Brian) Kennedy then Culross dwelling,

Loving wife Eleanor Kennedy, alias Tubman,

and for my beloved son James Kennedy,

the young man of good character,

died 9 Jan. 1704, and their descendants,
their own, as well as in memory of the ancestors’ burial,

that I am to be made the day of 27 Feb. 1705
